Even before its opening in June of 2022, the Northern Regional Recreation Center drew excitement and anticipation from the Northern Mecklenburg community. The $44 million facility showed a recognition of the need for a state-of-the-art fitness and community center in the area. Now 2 years since it opened its doors to the public, 'North Meck Rec' has established its place as one of the most popular and in-demand facilities in Lake Norman. Here are the things you need to know before visiting.

A family membership is $65/month, which includes up to four children and two adults. Adult memberships are $45/month per person, and a Senior membership is $22/month per person. If you don't want a membership, you can just purchase a day pass for access to their facilities. A membership unlocks access to all group exercise programs offered at the rec center.

The center stands at 85,000 square feet, and features:
- An 8-lane, 25-yard lap pool to practice swim skills.
- Multiple courts that are designed for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball.
- An indoor track and full gyms to get in shape.

- A handicap-accessible family pool with a multi-story waterslide and a lazy river to lounge around in.
- A collaborative garden space that allows the community to work together and cultivate a healthy garden bed.
- Large and small room rentals for various events, featuring a dedicated dividable ballroom with a connected full kitchen and smaller rooms available for occasions such as birthdays, senior citizen meetings, game clubs, and many other activities.
- There are 'childwatch' centers to drop your kids off while you work out, as well as offices for you to work or study at.
Classes Available:
There are several classes to choose from at the NRRC and they are first come, first serve, and it is recommended to arrive 15 minutes before a class's start time.
- Kickboxing
- Chair Fit- This class is great for older adults to engage in strength training in a safe sitting position. The exercises help improve strength, blood flow, and flexibility while keeping joints active.
- Tai-Chi- Tai Chi is a guided session of gentle physical activity and stretching led by an instructor. The class comprises a sequence of slow, deliberate movements, complemented by deep breathing.
- Yoga
- Boot Camp- A high-intensity workout that includes circuit training, bodyweight training, and cardio amongst other aspects.
- Barre- Low-impact workout that uses elements from pilates, yoga, and ballet.
- Cardio Funk- This choreograph dance class incorporates Latin, Jazz, Hip-Hop, African and Modern dance into one dance routine.
- Chair Yoga
- Line Dancing
- Cycling
- Bar and Band Pump- This workout targets all muscle groups. It involves performing higher repetitions with lighter weights to build strength and provide a cardio-intensive workout.
- Kettlebell & Core- A high-intensity workout that combines functional and compound movements, and focuses on strengthening core muscles

Walking Track:
13 years and under: Guardian must be present on the track at all times
Open Gym:
0-8 years old | Guardian must be present in the gymnasium at all times |
9-12 years old | Guardian must be in the facility at all times |
13-17 years old | Participants can be dropped off without a guardian |
Leisure Pool:
4 years and under | Guardian needs to be in the water at all times |
5-9 years old | Guardian must be on the pool deck, not necessarily in the water |
10-12 years old | Guardian must be in the facility at all times |
13-17 years old | Participants can be dropped off without a guardian |
Lap Pool:
9 years and under | Participants are not allowed in the lap pool |
