Davidson, North Carolina, has a rich history that dates back to the 18th century. Davidson was founded in 1837 when a group of Presbyterians purchased land for a new college. The town was named after Brigadier General William Lee Davidson, a Revolutionary War hero. Davidson College is a vital part of the town's identity today. Davidson remains a small, close-knit community with historic charm.
In recent years, Davidson has gained attention for its commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and historic preservation. The town has become a desirable place to live, known for its walkable downtown, cultural events, and strong sense of community. The main street of Davidson offers a variety of shops, restaurants, and a public library. The town is proud to be pedestrian and bicycle friendly. Davidson was also awarded its first Tree City USA designation making it one of just 72 communities in North Carolina and just 3,000 nationwide to receive the award.
