To Our Visitors: Post-Hurricane Helene

Lake Norman is safe and open for travel following Hurricane Helene. While we are fortunate to avoid the worst, our hearts go out to those who have been affected in neighboring regions. For those in need, we currently have limited hotel room availability for individuals displaced by the hurricane. Western NC Travel Advisory

Intern Testimonials

"I had a phenomenal experience as a Summer Marketing Intern for Visit Lake Norman. This internship was all encompassing and I was exposed to many different tasks and responsibilities outside of just marketing. I gained experience creating and editing social media posts, blogs, and website pages, managing ambassadors, event operations, was able to create my own projects, and so much more.

The staff at VLN made this internship even better. Everyone is so welcoming and truly wants to see their co-workers and interns succeed. VLN does things the right way and are one of the best in the industry. This was truly a great learning experience and I would highly recommend this opportunity to anyone looking to enter the sports/tourism industry!"

I had an amazing experience this summer as a marketing intern at Visit Lake Norman. I gained invaluable experience that has helped me be more prepared for my major and career goals. This was great exposure to a new field of business that I had not previously tried and allowed me to learn more about my hometown. Creating blogs and managing social media and website content was my favorite part of the internship because I was able to be creative and get immersed in many different businesses and activities in the area.

The VLN team was amazing and created such a positive and welcoming environment. I gained not only professional advice but also life lessons from everyone and enjoyed getting to know them throughout the summer. I highly recommend this internship to anyone that is trying to grow their marketing skills or just try something new!

"Over the summer, I had an incredible experience as a marketing intern at Visit Lake Norman. During the duration of my internship, I worked online and in-person at the visitor center. I developed my skills in social media, posting twice a week on Instagram. I enjoyed writing, editing, and updating blog posts on visitlakenorman.org. I learned how to utilize the CRM platform online to update account listings. I improved my research skills by editing the resource guides and pamphlets. I used graphic design to create Pinterest thumbnails and visitor center slides. I updated Visit Lake Norman’s visitor guide and google listings. In the visitor center, I answered calls and assisted guests with recommendations for their travels, and helping them with their purchases.
I am truly grateful for the experience and appreciate all the work that went into accommodating me and the other interns, with us working remotely and virtual communication. This experience has deepened my passion for my future in digital marketing and has led me to want to look into graphic design, and social media marketing. I enjoyed working with my supervisors, fellow interns, and ambassadors. The VLN team has shown me such kindness and given me knowledge that I will never forget. Thank you all, and take care!"

Hayes, Sports and Marketing Intern (Summer 2020)

"As I head into the first Fall semester work week, I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for Visit Lake Norman who hosted me this summer as a marketing and PR intern.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic and having to convert a majority of the internship to a virtual environment, I was still afforded the opportunity to hone and develop various skills like writing blogs, drafting press releases, and developing content for Instagram. I was also given the chance to learn in-depth aspects of the operations of Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs), such as Board of Director structure and meeting minute-taking, reviewing and interpreting social media and website analytics, utilizing content marketing, social media management, and CRM software, and conducting daily operations of a Visitor Center, which were incredibly valuable experiences I may not have gotten elsewhere.

I'm grateful to my supervisors and the staff for their constant support and feedback, for the collaboration and engagement of the other interns as we pursued our assignments, and for the insights and assistance of the ambassadors as we managed the Visitor Center. I am happy to have contributed to the team, and I wish the organization and staff a safe and successful future!"

"The first semester of junior year is right around the corner and summer is coming to an end! It’s a beautiful time to reflect on my time and experiences over the last few months. This past summer, I had an amazing growth opportunity to work as a Marketing Intern with Visit Lake Norman. Through this experience, I have enhanced my skills to display experiences second hand through diversely written blogs, vibrant Instagram posts, as well as spending time in the visitors center. This opportunity has given me perspective on how powerful words and connection can be for growing a community while also keeping it together.

I would like to thank all of my supervisors, colleagues, and mentors at Visit Lake Norman for believing in me and giving me the environment to conceptualize my creativity in such a unique market. I have truly learned so much and look forward to growing onward and upward in my professional pursuit thanks to the foundation Visit Lake Norman has provided me. I believe that this experience amplified my passion for communication and community, and for that, I am grateful."
