The towns of Cornelius, Davidson, and Huntersville have preserved several historic sites, including architecture and rural farms with one of them being the oldest standing store in North Carolina.

The Charlotte Regional History Consortium promotes cooperation among and interest in the region's history and heritage organizations and resource centers. Founded in 1994, the Consortium holds quarterly meetings at member sites, which allows organizations an opportunity to exchange ideas, arrange cooperative events, and coordinate program scheduling. Its geographic region covers Charlotte and the surrounding counties.
